For this project, I have designed the level with a strong focus on guiding the player through a fantasy environment, utilizing key principles of composition and spatial storytelling. I strategically placed the starting point to immediately orient the player and direct their attention toward the ultimate goal—a mystical temple, which serves as both a narrative and gameplay focal point. The composition is built around the golden ratio to naturally lead the player’s gaze toward the objective.
Design process
The design process has begun with initial sketches, where I explored different layouts and angles. After refining the concept, I created a blockout of the environment, focusing on core gameplay mechanics and layout. Once the foundation was solid, I gradually added more detailed elements, adjusting the flow and ensuring the level remained engaging. The iterative process has allowed me to refine the balance between narrative direction and gameplay flow.
One of my key goals in this level has been to make the temple and its surrounding rock formation feel both integrated with the environment and yet stand out as something unique.





The temple is the main objective of the level, acting as both a narrative goal and a gameplay hub. I have designed as a potential point to teleport the player to the next level once they complete the required challenges. I structured the level to naturally guide the player toward the temple through visually distinct markers and environmental clues. I implemented emissive materials on the rocks near the temple to subtly direct the player toward their goal.


Verticality and Exploration
I have made extensive use of verticality to create an engaging and dynamic experience. The player encounters hidden paths, tunnels, and bridges embedded in the rocky terrain, offering both exploration opportunities and strategic advantages. These elevated areas allow the player to observe their surroundings, adding depth to the environment.
Water Spline and Stylized Shaders
To enhance the environment, I have used Unreal Engine’s water spline tool to create flowing rivers and a serene pond nestled between the rocks.
I applied stylized water shader, contributing to the overall fantasy aesthetic. The water’s surface features subtle transparency changes based on depth, with frothy, painterly edges.
